Science may be on the threshold of greatly extending the human life span to 100 years or more. If all causes of biological aging are discovered and cured, people eventually may have an indefinite life span extending for many centuries.

Discuss how logically persuasive you find the above argument. In presenting your point of view, analyze the sort of reasoning used and its supporting evidence. In addition, state what further evidence, if any, would make the argument more sound and convincing or would make you better able to evaluate its conclusion.

The author’s argument is unconvincing because his conclusion depends on several unsubstantiated assumptions. Each of the following areas merit further explanation before the author can be given any degree of credibility.

Firstly, the whole argument is based on a single most powerful assumption that Science is at the threshold of achieving the near-possible immortality. But there is hardly any evidence given to prove the stand or as to how far the developments has actually taken place on which this prediction has been done.

Secondly, with the constant controversies around the research of the biological aging features like stem cell, cloning, etc., the possibility of the successful completion of any of them is questionable. For example, in a recent observation it was found that the animals on which the experiments are tested on, are different than the animals from their natural habitat. Such incidents always brings a question on the credibility of the outcome of such scientific researches.

Thirdly, supposing that Science could find and cure all the cause of the biological happening, then there is no gurantee of the indefinite life span of the human beings especially with simultaneous discoveries of new diseases like Bird Flu and so on. Additionally, the frequent natural calamities and accidents as that of wars, road accidents can hardly ensure that every human being will have an indefinite life span.

Last but not the least, questioning the natural process and controlling it could backfire the whole mankind severely as observed in the cases of mindless expansion of industrial growth at the expense of nature, that resulted in frequent tornadoes, floods, global warming and so on.

Due to the many holes in the reasoning of the author’s argument, it is difficult to take him seriously. Unless further evidence surface in each of the areas discussed above, the given premises are insufficient proof that the conclusion drawn is viable.

The BestValue Superette chain has nine stores in Mytown, USA. The company’s policy is to maintain the same prices for all items at all stores. However, the distribution manager knowingly sends the poorest cuts of meat and the lowest quality produce to the store located in the low-income section of town. He justifies this action on the ground that this store has the highest overhead because of factors such as employee turnover, theft and vandalism.

Discuss how logically persuasive you find the above argument. In presenting your point of view, analyze the sort of reasoning used and its supporting evidence. In addition, state what further evidence, if any, would make the argument more sound and convincing or would make you better able to evaluate its conclusion.

Response:

The distribution manager’s argument is unconvincing because his conclusion depends on several unsubstantiated assumptions of high overhead. Each of the following areas merit further explanation before he can be given any degree of credibility of his decision of sending the poorest cuts of meat and low quality produce to the low-income store of the town.

Firstly, the consideration of theft as a factor of high overhead of the store is questionable. The possibility of the lack of the security measures at the store cannot be ruled out due to poor employee turnover. Also, the technical security measures adopted by the store might not be of the accepted standard. Additionally, the location of the town may be well-known for its higher rate of thefts due to improper law and order at that section f the town.

Secondly, vandalism can be the result of the dissatisfaction of the customers over the poor quality products provided at the stores and its continuous negligence towards improving it. Moreover, the possibility of the bad nature and behavior of the employees of the store also cannot be ruled out, which might be prompting people for vandalism.

Lastly, the employee turnover can be bad due to various reasons. There might be the possibility that the store might not be paying them well. Moreover, the employees could also be sceptic about their security due to chaotic frequent incidents like thefts and vandalism at the store. In view of the thefts and vandalism, the company’s response and trust towards its employees can also be questioned, which could determine the interest and loyalty of the employees.

Due to the many holes in the reasoning of the distribution manager’s argument, it is difficult to take him seriously. Unless further evidence surface in each of the areas discussed above, the given premises are insufficient proof that the conclusion drawn is viable.

It is much easier to learn in a small class than in a large one.

Small and larger classes, each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let us snalyze them vis-a-vis.

Firstly, in small classes teachers can give individual attention to each and every student while this may not be possible in the larger classes. But sometimes repeating such things may make a steudent dependent on his teachers for his/her various activites like should he be participating in a dance competition, making him prone to his future decision making capabilities.

Secondly, small classes may encourage less group involvement activites and more individual oriented tasks. On the other hand, their larger counterparts will be involved in more of group oriented activities rather than the individualistic tasks. Thus, larger classes makes an individual understand and decision of giving priorities to the correct part of their involvement in day to day activites. Moreover, in todays fast changing business world, the participation and contribution of the groups can hardly be ignored anymore when an individual’s impact has come almost to its dead level.

Thirdly, smaller classes may be useful when an individual might be doing some advanced study as like PhD and especially in research but larger classes teach how to achieve every individual’s

goals while achieving the group’s success at the same time.

Last but not the least, larger classes build ever lasting relationships while smaller classes sometimes may lead to harsh competition and rivalry among individuals due to jealousy and many other factors.

Therefore, considering the above said resaons,I would favour learing in a larger class rather than a samller one.

You have received a full scholarship to a good university in your country. You have also been offered a full scholarship to a top university in another country. Which of these two scholarships would you accept?

I would prefer to study in the university of my country rather than going to any another country, if I qualify to get full scholarship at both the universities.

Inida has come up as a strong economic pwerhouse in the past two decades after economic liberalization. It is now considered to be one of the fastest growing and emerging economies. With the future looking good and prosperous for the country, I would prefer to study and work here rather than going abroad to study.

Moreover, top universities like Indian School of Business, Indian Institutes of Managements, Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Information Technology has become global brands with their alumni having established as graduates at par with any other good universities of the world and has been now constantly been ranked at the world level.

Additionally, being in the country helps to be within the reach of my relatives and friends in mutual needs. And I strongly believe that joy of success will be in its true color if we share that joy with our loved near and dear ones.

As I am keenly interested to take my country tot he nect level of its development and see the dream of our past President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam of India becoming a developed country by 2020, I would like to help it from here be lending a hand in its course in every possible way.

Some university students prefer living in campus housing such as dormitories. Other students prefer living in off-campus housing such as apartments. Which of these two options would you choose?

I would prefer living in the campus rather than off-campus. Living in campus housing such as dormitories gives us the following advantages:

Firstly, being in close proximity to the university, there is no time constraints. Sometimes, commuting may take lot of time, which may be judiciously used for studying, extra-curricular activites, playing sports or making friends. Additionally, there is no headache of daily traffic woes and hence, we can free of strict time-oriented activities at the campus.

Secondly, it allows to mix with the blend of students of the other courses and may be of other countries in the dormitories, thus, allowing to expand the horizon of relationships, culture, hertitage and own social network, which comes fruitful during the testing times of our lives. It gives the opportunity to participate in the various university activities and mingle with the people.

Thirdly, it always allows us to use the university amenities like computer labs, research labs, gyms and libraries as and when required, provided there are no constraints to using them.

Last but not the least, other than generally being less costly than off-campus housings, university life comes for just a couple of years where we are free to have our lives with others, which could leave a long-lasting impact on our lives and we go on to make life-long friendships. After the university, everyone tends to move out to their families and jobs, eventually settling down at the apartments.

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to give GRE and GMAT this year; probably around the end of the year. So, what better way to ask for the hints and feedback than this.

So, whoever visiting the page, I sincerely request you to kindly give your suggestions and tips.

Also, I will be posting some essays, written in a strict timeline of 30 mins; for which I will be expecting some sincere reviews from you.

The First Essay goes here today:

Topic is: Some People Believe that money spent on space research benefits all of humanity. Other people take the opposite view and say that money spent on this type of research is wasted.

Essay:

Space Technology and the research in its field is one of the most renowned and advanced field. All across the globe, each and every country try to prove their mighty power basically through three things-Space Technology, Arms and Economy. Each and every developed country runs impossible multi-billionaire projects every year. A country advanced in Space Technology is almost equivalent to being a permanent UN security council member.

Before putting up my stand, I would like to put certain fact which would help me in asserting my stand on the topic.

Firstly, why do we need Space Technology? The answer to it lies in many ways that knowing and unknowingly they play an inevitable role in our lives. Space technology helps in putting up some vital satellites for various uses like predicting weather, tracking vehicles as in the use of Global Positioning Systems, finding vital places of sources of interest as of Oil  and other minerals. Recently, countries have started using the satellites to study across the two distant places, thus, bridging the gap of knowledge and reach to a proximal distance only. Moreover, by the help of prediction of weather, countries are able to control the destruction, that could brought by disastrous cyclones, tornadoes, etc. Also, they are able to predict the rain to a great extent, which, in turn helps in the production of right crops and plantations at the right time, thus, increasing the prospects of farming and a better world. The satellites also help in the communication of the planes which fly distant places, thus, also maintaining constant touch with the base stations, The latest tech buzzword-cellphones and Internet, helping us to remain in touch with our friends, workplaces and relatives, no matter where we are, are also due to hassle free communication through the satellites.

Secondly, space technology is helping us with the prospect of finding the alternatives of living across the space. Exploration of Mars is a significant step towards it. Considering the fact that we are running out of the space with the exploding population of the countries and the pollution, the alternatives of finding a natural habitat suitable for human living would prove to be a great benefit. Search for the water on the land of Mars is a great step towards this.

Thirdly, space technology is the technology that drives the other science and other technologies to the next level. The development of complicated hardwares and  softwares are due to the ever increasing demand of the space research field. The complex Mathematical and Science Formulas and theories are result of this field only.

From the above benefits to the human being and the society, it is clear that the job of a space scientist demands great commitment and expertize. So, obviously in order to keep the scientists satisfied thorugh their job, it is also necessary to compensate them equally in monetary terms too. And hence, getting a job in the space research centers like NASA and ISRO is a very esteemed and honorable job and can never be compared to anything else. And who can forget Dr. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, who was a ISRO scientist and is the one of the most respectable person of the world.

So, I firmly believe that money spent on the space research goes for the development of the country, else any country of the world would have no time other than just dealing with the natural calamities causing severe devastation all the time. The development and prosperity that we see around us is majorly due to the developments on the space technology.
